Over the past several months the world has born witness to a widespread flaring of violence and protest spreading from Denmark through Europe and into the Middle East. Angry diatribes rocket back and forth through mainstream media and in mainstreet politics.

- I have to wonder what reason or justification the insurgents must have for their continued attacks. Is there someplace where their declarations are collected or represented? This doesn't seem like an attack on the Israeli allied United States. This is an internal matter.

- I must admit that the whole thing seems relatively pointless from this vantage point. Perhaps if the stunt had been staged as part of a larger movement, it could have been something more along the lines of a symbol.

- I think this is a fine example of a disturbing democratic process in action. That the majority of Palestinian people would vote to put in power figures considered by the rest of the world to be violent radicals is a damning indication of the popular public mindset.

- Ultimately I think that this is a simple issue of economics. Nuclear power programs are being explored simultaneously worldwide, with the UK scheduled to bring several reactors online in coming years and the US considering similar expansions for the first time in a decade.
